Stay Fueled! by Emelie Jaen

One of the most important things for a dancer is what they eat! It is so important to fuel yourself correctly especially on long rehearsal weekends or competition/convention weekends.

You want to fuel yourself correctly, so you can have a successful and fun weekend! Just think of yourself as a car. If you give a car the wrong type of gas, it’s not going to work correctly. This is just like your body! If you fuel your body with the wrong things, you won’t be able to work to your full potential!

First, it is super important to always stay hydrated. Be sure to always have a water bottle near you and drink lots of water. Gatorade and powerade are also good sports drinks but sometimes they can have lots of sugar, so I like to mix them with water to dilute some of the

sugar.

You also want to be sure to eat throughout the day. You don’t always have to eat a full meal but eating small and healthy snacks throughout the day is super important. Some of my favorite snacks are bananas, apples with peanut butter, pita chips with hummus, strawberries, and cantaloupe. If I have time for a full meal I love to eat grilled chicken sandwiches!

Finally, I would recommend staying away from super sugary items such as candy and other sweets. Foods with tons of sugar might make you feel super energized at the time you eat them, but just give it a few hours and you will find yourself in a sugar crash! You don’t have to avoid sugary foods completely, but just be cautious of the amount that you are eating.

These are just a few tips and suggestions to keep your body fueled and working at its full potential!!

This is great, thank you for the tips Emelie!! I love salads, coconut chips, dried seaweed and turkey jerkey too when I’m at dance!
