. I dance at a small studio and because I am an advanced dancer, I often dance with girls much older than me. Sometimes this can be intimidating at first. It’s important to be confident and know that you are placed in a dance because your skills match the other dancers and be confident that the choreography is something you can handle. Because I am small, I often get the fun parts like being tossed in the air or at the top of a formation. I love learning from my older friends. Dancing with them pushes me and inspires me.
Often we compete against large studios. It’s important to bring the same level of fierce, technique and style. You may be small but mighty. It’s not about size, it’s about performance and loving the stage. We make lots of friends with other studios. Sometimes at awards, your whole studio may not be there because it is a late night. When you make friends with other studios, you don’t mind sitting on stage with new friends. We should all support one another. If you are from a larger studio, look around and see if there is a dancer with only a few friends who could use your support.
