We have all heard the phrase preparation is key to success. And that is definitely true when it comes to dance competitions. Here are a few helpful tips to help you prepare for your next successful dance competition:
First, a week before your competition, prepare your dance bag. I like to use garment bags with pockets. I put my costume in the garment bag and then put all the accessories for that costume (jewelry, hair piece, tights, etc) in the pockets. With post-covid block scheduling, there are often very quick changes. Having all the pieces to your costume together will help. I like to pack my bag the week before so in case I’m missing something I have time to replace it.
Second, pack an “emergency kit” with things like safety pins, bobby pins, hair ties, band-aids, two-sided tape, sewing kit, ibuprofen, makeup wipes, etc.
Third, the night before your competition go through your bag again and make sure you have everything – don’t forget things like makeup, brush, mirror, and of course your dance shoes! Make sure you pack plenty of water bottles and snacks!
Fourth, get a good night sleep!
Fifth, make sure you get up in plenty of time to do your hair and makeup and drive to the competition. And don’t forget to eat a good breakfast!
Have fun and good luck!
