I have been dancing since I was 3 and competitively dancing since I was 8. I remember watching the "big girls" at our studio on their pointe shoes and dreaming about someday having parts like a Party Girl or The Sugar Plum Fairy in the Nutcracker. It occurs to me that "I" am one of the "big girls" now dancing on the highest team.
Dancing at a studio and doing competitive dance gives us such an AMAZING opportunity to be role models to younger dancers. There are so many times that we interact with younger kids whether it is in the dressing rooms, waiting for a class or cheering each other on at competition. They see how we react when we win and when we lose, they see how we treat our fellow teammates and they see our work ethic.
I love that my studio has a big/little program to mentor a younger dancer. I have made some wonderful and lasting relationships. I think it is SO important to remember how you looked up to the older girls when you were younger and that YOU have so many little eyes watching you when you succeed and fail! Positivity is Key
