In the dance competition world, it is especially important to have great sportsmanship not only to other studios, but to your own teammates. We all know that dance competitions can have some fierce competitors, but having a good attitude and outlook can be the key to having a successful career. Studios, as well as teammates should always be supportive of one another. Although, I do agree it is ok to have some “healthy competition”, at the end of the day, it all comes down to 3-4 judges OPINIONS.
It is so refreshing to see studios clapping or congratulating other studios. If you think someone from another studio stood out to you or did an outstanding job, I encourage you to tell them! You could make their day!
This also goes for your own teammates. Be sure to give your friends some encouragement and kind words before/after performing! I personally know that I truly appreciate it when someone from my studio or another studio takes the time to tell me “Good Luck” or “Great Job”!
One last thing...be sure to also carry over the good sportsmanship to social media. Congratulate your teammates/competitors on awards they received on their Instagram posts! Never post anything negative about a teammate or competitor!
Have fun and keep it classy,
