Nailing Your Next Photoshoot

As a dancer and model I have gotten pretty good at being prepared for photoshoots, even when I am not 100% sure about what to expect. I have a few photographers I work with regularly, which is great, because you know their vibe and style, and they know yours!  But often, you are working with each other for the first time. And that can be super fun, but also challenging. Here are some things I have learned along the way to be the best prepared for any shoot.

Over packing is your friend! Bring lots of clothing or dancewear choices you can mix and match. If you are modeling for clothing or dancewear that will be provided, make sure you have the right undergarments...flesh toned, white, and black.

Have hair options. Wear your hair completely down and natural unless otherwise specified and bring a hair kit for quick changes. Even If you know there will be a hair/make-up person, it’s still great to have your own brush, comb, hair ties and bobby pins.

Which reminds me...make up!  I am on the younger side, just 12, and very petite. So often, I model kids' clothing.  I have learned to do very light makeup that brightens my face, but isn’t overly done...the “no-makeup” makeup look, if you will.  If there is a makeup person on set, great! They can add or layer their look, if there isn’t, you are showing up ready and prepared to look great on camera!

The most important thing to bring is your personality!  Every one of you has a unique personality and inner light that shines right through the camera! For a dance shoot especially, it is great to have those signature poses in mind, but your personality and flair is what will set you apart and make those photos YOU.

Hope this helps you be photoshoot ready!
