One thing I have learned as a dancer, from the big age of 6, is I HATE having my hair brushed. I have really long, thick, curly hair. But I learned about something that helped me cope.
During competition season this was a nightmare at first…especially when having my piggies put in! OUCH!! Just ask my mom, I would scream and cry the whole time. She always had to do my hair before my makeup…otherwise she would have to do my makeup again. And that’s not fun at 5am when your solo is usually in the first group of dancers for the morning.
What I discovered is instead of waiting till the morning to do my hair, that it was better to start it the night before. I get in the tubby to clean up and get my hair totally wet. When I’m all done and I get out it’s easier to brush when it’s wet. Then my mom can do my part and two braids and I can sleep in them. Then when I get up the next day it can be sprayed back down for the fly-aways, if needed, and then in goes the gel to keep it flat. Next, wind those braids up and in go the the piggies. Add a little hairspray and Voila! This saves my mom like an hour of aggravation!!
I know I’m not the ONLY kid out there with this issue…hope it helps someone!!
