Today I wanted to share how I grew my IG account from 500 hundred followers to over 2,000 in a few months.
First, I started out with a handle that I thought would work with dance. I would suggest only using your name or a handle that is easy to remember. As a person that is always tagging new friends.. sometimes it's difficult to find them again or find them at all because their name is not their instagram handle. You want your handle to be memorable and easy. When I travel to dance competitions, intensives, camps, classes away from my home studio I always introduce myself to new friends and ask them for their instagram handle and friend them right on the spot. This really builds a following that is doing the same things you are.
Secondly, Say something catchy to get an interest. Always post quality and themed pictures that are related to your image. I also always use hashtags in my post caption. This is a great trick because new people find you through your hashtags making sure your hashtags are related to the theme of your post. A few hashtags I use are #dancer, #talent, #instadancer, #instalike. I also make sure I'm positive and grateful while articulating my thoughts and sharing my journey.
And lastly, have quality dance content. DON'T post random pics of your friends or blurry pics of the lunchroom from school. Your dance account should feature your talent and look professional and interesting. I would suggest always having an adult work with you making sure your posts are clear, concise, and appropriate. You can always have a spam account for random stuff you want to just share with your school friends. Your account is a networking tool that should inspire others to reach their goals.
Remember the amount of followers, likes, and comments does not determine your worth, talent, or what is to come. It's just a tool to share your journey with others and inspire those around you. Remember to always watch for those who are following that are creeps or not real accounts. Never give your personal information to anyone through DM and always check with parents when something suspicious comes through. My mom checks my account regularly for creeps or people with negative intention. I keep my account clean of these fake followers and actively spread positive vibes to those that follow me. As dancers, we need to encourage others as we grow together in our IG community.
Keep inspiring,
Stella
