Expressing Yourself Through Improv
Dance has been a part of my life since I was 2 years old.
While back then it was simply about learning and memorizing
a series of steps, it has become so much more than that to me.
It has become my outlet.
I used to be really scared of improv because I worried
I wouldn’t know what to do. But now I have come to embrace
it because I have found it the best way to express whatever
First, I like to listen to the song I’ll be dancing
to allowing my feelings to come to the surface and letting the music
touch my soul. Then, I just let the music guide me. There’s no
right or wrong here. It’s all about letting those feelings
shine through in your interpretation.
The beauty of the process is every time I dance, it looks
just a little bit different based on what I’m feeling.
And when I’m finished, I always feel refreshed and renewed.
