Busy Dance Life = Amazing Time Management
We all know how much time it takes to be a great dancer. Most of us spend more time at the studio than at home. As I have gotten older the time has increased but so has the amount of studying and homework each night. I know, for me, there are nights I get home late and still have to eat, shower, and do homework. It can make it hard to get the right amount of sleep too. Doing well in school and getting good grades is really important to me too. I have had to learn to balance dance and school a lot this year.
I have learned that I have to be really on top of things and work ahead if possible on the days I don’t have dance. I am in 5th grade so we still have recess. When we have indoor recess, I use the time to work on homework or read. It also means using any breaks at dance to work on homework too. Sometimes this can be hard with so many other dancers running around or hanging out. It is easy to get distracted by my friends. I try to find a quiet location in the studio where I can work. It helps that my teammate and best friend is also in my class so we can help keep each other on track. I know that I will have to continue to work to balance dance and school and it will get harder, but when you are passionate about something it makes all the hard work worth it.
Dance has made me miss out on some school activities and clubs. Sometimes this makes me sad, but I also know that I have so many amazing experiences and opportunities because of dance that I wouldn’t otherwise have. All of these sacrifices are worth it when I am on that stage and with my teammates!
My tip for everyone is to always use your time wisely. If you have 5 minutes before leaving for dance, use it. When you have a 4 hour ride in the car to a convention, read or work on homework. It might not always be fun, but if it means you can spend more time at the studio working on your passion, then it is worth it!!
