In the dance world there can be lots of drama and negativity. It can sometimes be very hard to concentrate and be positive in a studio filled with stress and tension. I’m sure every dancer goes through this so you are definitely not alone. I’m here to tell you a few ways of deal with this issue.
- Don’t take other people’s negativity personally.
- Be the positivity you want to see.
- Focus on solutions.
- Provide support when it makes sense.
- Realize that life is full of ups and downs.
- Let go and move on when it’s needed.
You can lead by being a positive example yourself. You might not be able to change the world but you can make it a little nicer. Don’t focus on the past but look to the future and spend your energy on moving forward in a positive way. Let people know you are there for them by simply asking “Is there anything I can do to help?” Sometimes a little compassion is all someone needs.
How do you deal with negativity? Start by acknowledging the negativity, accepting it, and then most importantly, letting it pass without letting it ruin your day! If all else fails, when dealing with a negative person, remove yourself from the relationship or situation. Some people are like dark clouds but when they are gone, it’s a brighter day! It isn’t easy to remain positive but remember you are in control of your own attitude. So be sure to choose to make it great and positive.
Stay Focused,
Mary Faith
