It’s Makalya here with some friendly tips on how to prep for auditions. There are many key tips to remember. First, make sure you plan ahead. You need to make sure your bag is packed right for the type of audition that you will attending. You don’t want to show up in ballet clothes to a hip hop audition because it can certainly create a lot of frustration when you're trying to stay fierce and focused. Make sure you wear something that makes you stand out from the rest. If there are no clothing requirements, I like wearing bright colors or dance clothing that suits my body. It’s also a good idea to wear dance apparel that is not likely to be seen on other dancers in the audition room.
Some other tips that will help during your audition are to make sure you get a good night's rest. A good night of healthy sleep is important to dancers of all ages! Don’t forget to stay hydrated. You want to function at full speed when you're going full out in an audition. I leave the garbage food to my brothers and pack a healthy snack, full of protein and nutrients to keep the energy up! Fresh veggies and fruits work best for me and help keep me going all day.
The best piece of advice I ever received was given to me by my dance sister and Sugarpro sister, Arianna Hatch. She told me that I don’t always have to be front and center to get noticed. The front right and left wings are just as good and typically the better spot.
And always remember, you win some and you lose some but you're always a winner because you gave it your all! Enjoy the convention and audition sisters and remember “STAY FIERCE AND FOCUSED”.
