Start off by looking at each teacher’s bio and learning about them, especially their choreography. It’s important to follow them on Instagram since the dance world is SO small!
Make an effort to meet new dancers and form friendships...you never know, you might see them again.
During class, always have a positive mindset and go up towards the front to learn the choreography. Ask questions when you are confused or unaware of what’s going on.
You should wear an outfit that represents you so that you will stand out! Especially when you have a dance audition since it will draw the choreographer's eyes to you.
Wear a hairstyle that pops out and is comfortable to dance in. I normally have my hair in two french braids or a braid into a ponytail.
Apply some light makeup such as mascara, eyeshadow, eyeliner, light foundation, and lipstick/lipgloss. You never want to look like you just got out of bed since you are setting your reputation as a dancer.
Most importantly, make sure you have plenty of water and snacks to keep you hydrated and energized throughout the day. My go-to snacks are Goldfish, Cheez-Its, fruits, vegetables with ranch dip, Slim Jims, granola bars, Entenmann’s Little Bites, and Chex Mix. I carry my water in a sports jug so I never get worried about not having any water left.
I hope you enjoyed these tips, just remember to have fun and dance your heart out!
