The #SUGARPROS are pros at winning scholarships and auditions. Sugar thought we would find out from them what it takes to get noticed.
The top tip from every one of the #SUGARPROS is to be confident and show you love dancing! Sounds simple right? Yes, but not everyone can pull it off. Whether its nerves, being tired, or being distracted sometimes even the best dancers can sometimes show a lack of enthusiasm.
#SUGARPROS Lexie A, Miranda, and Layla K suggest practicing on the side when its not your groups turn. Then, when your group gets called to the floor you’ll not only know the combo but you can take it a step further and show your musicality.
#SUGARPRO Jenna takes it even a step further and says, “Train! This is so important!! Train in technique and cardio. This not only helps with stamina, but judge’s notice that you have taken dance seriously. Preparing for an audition should start way before you go to one”
#SUGARPROS Jenna, Miranda, Katia, and Layla G truly believe in strong improv. Most times the audition will start with an improv. Practice improv before you get to the competition. A strong opening improv might be just the thing to draw the judge’s eye. Whatever you do, don’t just stand there!
A few other details suggested by the #SUGARPROS – eye contact with the judges, dress neat and different, wear your number high, and cheer on other dancers.
Lastly, but just as important as confidence, all the #SUGARPROS agree that going full-out and giving 100% while having fun is the best way to get noticed.
Good luck to all the comp dancers this season. Sugar wishes you the best. Be sure to tag @sugarhaulco on Instagram with your scholarship posts!
